Dropping Off Injectors for Cleaning: A Prep Checklist

A few minutes of prep makes your injector cleaning faster and your results more useful. Here's what we recommend before you bring your set to Budget Injector in Surrey.

1. Book a drop-off time

Book online with the number of injectors, the vehicle and engine, and any add-ons. You'll see the estimated total as you go — nothing is charged until pickup. Typical turnaround is 1–2 hours.

2. Remove the injectors carefully

  • Relieve fuel pressure first (follow your service manual — often by pulling the fuel pump fuse and running the engine until it stalls).
  • Disconnect the battery.
  • Remove the rail with injectors attached where possible, then separate them on the bench.
  • Direct injection and diesel injectors often need special pullers and new seals — check your service info before forcing anything.

3. Label by cylinder

Mark each injector with its cylinder number (masking tape works). Your flow sheet can then be matched to the engine — so if cylinder 3 had a misfire, you can see exactly what its injector was doing.

4. Keep dirt out

Cap or tape over the inlet and tip of each injector, and pack them in a small box or bag with something soft. Grit in the inlet is exactly what you're paying to remove.

5. Note your symptoms

Write down codes (P0171, P0301, etc.), fuel trims if you have them, and what the engine was doing. Put it in the “Anything else” box when you book.

6. Choose your add-ons

Standard: ultrasonic cleaning + flow test after cleaning $15 per injector
Before-cleaning flow numbers — for diagnosis or proof +$5 per injector
Reverse flush — for injectors that sat or had debris +$5 per injector
Direct injection (GDI) or diesel +$5 per injector

7. Get ready for reinstall

  • New O-rings and pintle caps (or the seal kit specified for GDI/diesel injectors).
  • A little clean engine oil or the lubricant your service manual specifies for the O-rings.
  • Your flow sheet — check it before reinstalling. If one injector failed, swap it for a replacement.
