Why GDI injectors get dirty
A port injector sprays fuel into the intake, upstream of the valve. A GDI injector sits right in the combustion chamber, firing at very high pressure into the cylinder. That puts its tip in the hottest, dirtiest place in the engine, where carbon from combustion bakes onto the nozzle. Even a thin layer of deposits changes the spray pattern, so fuel doesn't atomize the way the engine was calibrated for.
Symptoms of dirty GDI injectors
- Rough or shaky idle, especially when cold
- Misfire codes on one or more cylinders
- Fuel trim or mixture codes
- Hesitation or stumbling under load
- Hard starting or a fuel smell
- Drop in fuel economy
Not every misfire is an injector — coils, plugs and intake-valve carbon cause similar symptoms on GDI engines. A flow test tells you whether the injectors are part of the problem before you buy a new set.

- Ultrasonic cleaning — cavitation removes varnish and carbon from the filter, seat and spray tip.
- Optional reverse flush (+$5) — back-flushes debris trapped in the internal filter basket.
